Wood floorings are probably the easiest to clean but the hardest to maintain. If you got confused by that, here is the explanation: while some types of flooring are hard to clean, wood floors are easy, just sweep and polish and you are done. However, maintenance is a killer. There are many things that can cause scratches, dents, and chips on a wood floor.
When you service a house or any commercial establishment that has wood floors, it is always a plus if you know your wood, some manufacturers, and if you can talk to the house owner or establishment manager about their floors.
Just to keep you in the loop on wood floors, here are some things that you will be glad to know before talking to your cleaning clients about it.
1. There are three major types of wood floors
• One is solid wood floor which means these are wood through and through. Solid wood floor products have a thickness ranging from a fourth of an inch to about an inch.
• Two is engineered wood floor, which is a product that is constructed in various layers. The grain of the wood is allowed to alternate in each layer which allows this product more flexibility in installation. Engineered wood floors come in different ply’s or layers, ranging from 1 ply to about 5 ply’s.
• Three are acrylic impregnated wood floor products. Just as its name implies, these products have been injected with acrylic, making this type of wood the most durable of all three types. Usually, this wood floor product is installed in commercial establishments where high traffic is expected. However, some homeowners also choose this type especially if they are looking for strength and longevity.
2. There are different styles of wood floors and these are
• Strip wood flooring which consists of lineal tongues and grooves and wherein the most recommended wood products are solid or engineered.
• Plank wood flooring is similar to the strip wood flooring style but is much wider.
• Parquet wood flooring are pieces of wood that are constructed into a geometric pattern or design.
No matter what type and style of wood floors have been constructed onto your client’s home or establishment, it is of course best that you know what the backgrounds are n order for you to clean them better.
