| | Hello friends
Firewalls are not a silver bullet that will shield you from all threats, but firewalls certainly help keep your system more secure. The firewall will not detect or block specific threats the way an antivirus program does, nor will it stop you from clicking on a link in a phishing scam email message or from executing a file infected with a worm. The firewall simply restricts the flow of traffic into (and sometimes out of) your

Their Impact on Diskeeper® Corporation Products
Service Pack 2 for Windows XP (SP2), Service Pack 1 for Windows Server 2003, and Windows Vista contain a number of security-related enhancements to their respective operating systems. Some of these enhancements affect the operation of certain network functionality in Diskeeper Corporation's Diskeeper, Undelete® and Sitekeeper® products.
Important Note: These changes are not necessary if you are using Diskeeper or Undelete locally, i.e., not using the "networking" features such as PushInstall or remote control connections.
Specifically, Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 SP1, and Windows Vista increase the default security levels for the Windows Firewall (previously known as Internet Connection Firewall). Additionally, the default security settings for the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) facility and the Distributed Common Object Model (DCOM) facility have been changed to more effectively "lock down" computers running these service packs.
As a result of these changes, it is necessary to modify some of the new default security settings within Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 in order to allow the networking features Diskeeper, Undelete or Sitekeeper to function properly. Diskeeper Corporation has created guidelines and tools to help our customers properly configure their applicable computers to work with our products. These solutions are based on information provided by Microsoft Deployment Guides and Knowledge Base articles. |

The firewall will not detect or block specific threats the way an antivirus program does, nor will it stop you from clicking on a link in a phishing scam email message or from executing a file infected with a worm. Microsoft has included a firewall in their Windows operating system for a while, but, until the release of Windows XP SP2, it has been disabled by default and required that the user know of its existence and take steps to turn it on.
Once you install Service Pack 2 on a Windows XP system, the Windows Firewall is enabled by default. You can get to the Windows Firewall settings by either clicking on the small shield icon in the Systray at the lower right of the screen and then clicking on Windows Firewall at the bottom under the Manage security settings for heading. |

| | Hi
Windows Firewall is the firewall service included with desktop and server releases of Microsoft Windows from Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 onwards. Prior to the release of Windows XP Service Pack 2 in 2004, it was known as Internet Connection Firewall.

Microsoft regularly releases improvements to Windows to help keep you protected from constantly changing Internet threats. Windows Firewall is one such improvement, first released as part of Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2. If you have Automatic Updates enabled, Windows Firewall is already protecting you.
Windows Firewall protects your computer by blocking communications that might actually be dangerous software trying to find a way to connect to your computer, rather than communications from a person or program you want to interact with. Windows Firewall is smart enough to allow connections from computers in your home and to block those connections from computers on the Internet. For example, Windows Firewall will allow you to share files or a printer between two computers in your home, but it will block any attempts from people on the Internet to connect to your computer.
You only need to configure Windows Firewall if you are having a problem with a program connecting to the Internet. If you’re not having a problem, simply verify that Windows Firewall is enabled on your computer, and enjoy using the Internet knowing that Windows Firewall is helping to protect you. If you are experiencing a problem, you can add a firewall exception for that program to ensure Windows Firewall isn’t causing the problem.
